Workin in a Coal Mine

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I’ve been hard at work for hours making lots of neat new things and all my dedication was paid off with a killer migraine. Ack, it’s killing me. A short post and then I think a break is needed.

Tomorrow evening I have dinner with the grandparents. A wonderful meal and lots of driving will be in store for me so I may not make it to writing. Can’t wait to see what my grandfather has planned for dinner, he’s a fantastic cook and we’re the only ‘kids’ left in the state for them to feed, so every time we’re there it’s like Thanksgiving.

When it comes to grandparents, I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I could write for pages about how awesome they are if my head wasn’t pounding, but suffice it to say they have been the two biggest influences on my life and much of who I am is because of them. And my grandmother is fast becoming my favorite customer. She has always had a necklace to match every outfit and I am quickly becoming the same way.

If I rambled, I apologize. I tend to gush when I talk about Mimi and Dadave. And so this wasn’t all about me and my world, here’s some jewelry from today.

Hooray for Central Air

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Our air conditioner broke last night. A long and painful nights sleep that was in Texas in the summer. This is the second time this year it’s broken, grr! But today some nice people came out and fixed it. Ahh. We’re all much happier.

My husband rented House, his favorite show, so we’ve planned a marathon. I’m planning to make stuff while we watch. He has two seasons and I think plans to watch them both tonight. So maybe I’ll be making LOTS.

And of course, my two new listings of the day.

A little bit of light.

It rained today, but not enough to stop me from getting my pictures taken and listing two new items. So just so you don’t think I shirked listing two days in a row, my two newest.  Those earrings look like scoops of ice cream to me.   Mmm… ice cream.  You guys look at the pretty sparkly things, I’m gonna go eat ice cream.

Speaking of pretty sparkly things, I got some really beautiful sparkly stuff in today, I’m gonna have some fun with those!

And go check out Ballerina Grape if you haven’t already!

Ballerina Grape

Ballerina Grape is a clothing designer who makes incredible handmade patchwork hippie style clothing. I’ve never owned another garment as high of quality or with such attention to detail as the skirt I got from there, my birthday present this year. Unquestionably the prettiest garment I’ve ever owned. She embroiders, crochets, appliques, or handpaints almost every inch.

Her skirts are my favorite, but I’m hoping for a top next. She also makes really great dresses and awesome pants. A really neat range, she even offers some jewelry and bags. And I noticed last time I was at her site she has a new category for hemp clothing. Her’s is the only newsletter I have ever volunteered for. And you can see my skirt featured in her recently sold skirts section too!

Those are some pictures my sister in law took for her photography portfolio. As hesitant as I always am to be in front of a camera, I was really excited to get some good pictures of my skirt. I have a tendency to freeze up, you have to catch me unaware or else deal with the most horrible fake smiles. I can’t help it.

Building an Ark and other rainy day pastimes

Too dark to take pictures indoors and too wet to take them outdoors, so no listing could be done today.  I’m disappointed, but you can’t fight the elements.  I need to take a whole bunch of photographs in one day to save up for occasions like these, but I haven’t had a long enough block of sunlight lately.  And the rain just keeps coming.

I’ve thought about making a lightbox, but I actually like most of the shadowing in my photographs from the natural light coming in the old window.  Like the old poems, I think they add to aged feel of the jewelry.  So I’ll just have to plan smarter.  I took these today from the window of my sewing room, where I usually take my pictures.   Every time I look out there, it’s raining just as hard as ever.

Hopefully though, I’ll make some new things tonight.  I’ve got a couple new ideas I’ve been working on.  I’m actually having relative ease lately with earrings, which is much progress for me.  I’ve always only worn studs and I’m trying to change that because it’s so hard for me to come up with good earring concepts.  I could make necklaces all night, I wish the other stuff came as easy.
