Tales From an Amateur Editor

The book has pretty much consumed me this week.  I finally finished going through the chapters the three agents requested.  The wizard’s next to me now, magicking up the last few pages before sending it out.  But now the real race comes(we hope), I have to finish editing the whole book before one of them wants to read the rest!  Um.

It’s nerve wracking picking apart someone’s work like this, but I feel like I’m getting better at it and feeling more confident in my critiques.  And he doesn’t seem to get too crushed, as long as I just mark the things I find wrong and don’t tell him about them.  The last chapter was pretty heavily marked.  I have a purple pen.  I like to think that softens the blow somehow.

I think we both need a break.  I’m starting this holiday early, we’re headed to the pool.

Having once-upon-a-time written for publication…or rather attempted to write of publication–LOL!… I know how nerve wracking this is for you both. A good editor is always a plus… And the purple pen is so much kinder than red. :o) I hope all goes well with the next bit. and your hubby gets a book deal–yea! Enjoy your break…well deserved to you both! ((HUGS))

Oooh… good idea with the purple pen… I will have to remember that next time when I am asked to edit anything ;)

Oh man, I’m so excited for him and I don’t even know him. Hopefully when I write my book I can handle someone filetting it open and picking out the bad stuff without curling into the fetal position under my desk.

Ooooh, a published Tracy?! Where, I wanna see! And I’m not surprised by how beautifully written your blog is.

    I think purple’s much friendlier, cabin+cub.

Yay, I’m excited too. *fingers crossed and all that* He gets that way about the editing too, if I TELL him the problems I find. He doesn’t like to have to hear them listed.

Good for him! That’s amazing. I always respect the dedication that it takes to write a book. And I totally agree that a purple pen is better than a red one, somehow.
