Once upon a time

Oooooh, I’m in a treasury and it’s an awesome one.  A dark fairy tale created by iggyfrankiecab and inspired by autumn.  There are so many things in this collection that have me drooling, I’m giddy to be among them.

Giving you the business

this is the front

My new business cards came today!  They look awesome. Really awesome, I’m very pleased. Thanks again, everyone, for your input.  I’m so happy with your choices in photographs, I have become convinced that they are the same ones I would have made myself.

#1 and 7 took the lead from the start, so I went ahead and designed them based off of that early on, loving them already, but considering changing them if the outcome happened to be different.  But they won!  And look beautiful.  Thanks for your help.

A Last Hurrah

Summer’s about done.  It’s a little sad, but we packed as much fun and sun into those fleeting months as we could.  This last weekend was our last little mini-vacation, a family trip to the ranch for around 20.  We were housed in the little side house with the tween crowd, the wizard’s little sister who starts high school this year and 3 friends.  They partied like rockstars and crashed through a bedroom window at 2:30 in the morning.  We awoke to a shatter and squeals of laughter.

But it was one of the prettiest and most peaceful paces I’ve ever been.  Located in San Saba Texas, a river runs through the property which I believe is the San Saba as well.  There are two large pecan orchards planted by the wiz’s  great-grandfather when he bought it in 1933, I was a little sad they weren’t in season, but if they had been, it would have been far to cold to swim in the stone fresh spring water pool, maybe the coldest water I’ve ever been in.

His father told me there are 4 cemeteries on the land from the families of the settlers who lived there before, I thought that was really neat and we took a trip up to take pictures of one.  There was also a giant plateau we drove to one night with the girls where a large rock had been placed for sitting and looking at the stars.  We scared ourselves silly and had to race back to the car.  The two of us went back the next day to see the view in daylight, it was really spectacular.

Lots of wildlife, on one adventure I saw a roadrunner and I think the tail end of an armadillo slinking off.  And deer, everywhere deer.  I tried to take pictures of as much as I could, but something mysterious happened to my camera and it isn’t working quite right.  But it’s being sent off to be fixed, so I’m not going to let that marr my memory of what was a great trip.

And the award goes to…

Wow!  I’m so sorry the drawing is so late this time!  I knew I would be leaving town this last week for a ranch family vacation but what I didn’t anticipate was that we would leave town days early.  So I’m back, it was beautiful, and my camera is broken.  Well, you can’t win them all(at least it’s still under warranty).

So no video drawing this month.  But thanks to random.org, we have our winner.  And I’m super excited to announce that it’s Tracy, of PinkPurl, who I credit to being my very first blog follower, from waaaaaay back when I first began.  So thanks, Tracy, for your continued support over the last few years, and congratulations, I couldn’t be happier for your win!

Now to prepare for the rest of the day with the wizard, it’s been 8 years today since we first started dating.  He’s run off to do a few errands and I think I’m going to sneak in the kitchen and make him a cake before he gets back.

Mama Mia

My mom was in town this weekend!  She moved to Tennessee when my little brother graduated from high school, so we don’t get to see her very often.  And this trip was special, for the first time ever she had a chance to stay a night with us.  With my grandparents in Dallas, it’s definitely more convenient to stay with them when she visits, but she made the trek over here for one night, which was really nice.

For me, this meant about a weeks worth of work around the house for that one night to happen.  I’m not generally the tidiest person around.  Or organized, I hope she didn’t check any of the closets, she knows my tricks.  She likely would have been faced with an avalanche.

I’m sure my frenzied cleaning was overboard though, she always has only the nicest things to say about my house and all the work I’ve put into it, she even took a bunch of pictures before she left this time.  But having guests does has a tendancy to light a fire under me in terms of decorating, this time, my bedroom got some needed attention.

Last night was her last here, we had a very large family dinner at one of our favorite restaurants where everybody came to see her and she left again this morning before the sun came up.  She should be back to Tennessee shortly and we’ll miss her, but we had a great time and I guess it will be our turn next.

The summer’s almost over now, but for me, it’s been the best in recent memory.  I’m feeling very positive about things.  Expect some new jewelry this week, the sun is back.  And it’s the last day to enter the giveaway if you haven’t yet!  I really have appreciated all of the opinions you guys have offered, thanks so much.
