Hidden Talents and Secret Hobbies

Well, I don’t know that I can really call it a talent, because at my limited level of skill, I’m not that talented, but I can crochet.  Sort of.  I taught myself the basics.  I don’t know the first thing about reading patterns or actually “doing” anything.  So far I’ve tackled scarves.  And potholders.

I don’t even often wear them, but I guess I’m quite proud of them.  My grandmother can crochet, she’s so good at it.  She can also knit beautifully.  Most of the women in my family can.  That seems like magic to me, crochet seems easier because it’s really just a series of knots.  And only one needle seems simpler too.

I have two books on crocheting that I have stubbornly refused to open, I’m awful about following instructions.  But it’s a fun thing to do when it’s cold outside and you’re sitting on the sofa watching a movie.  So I’ll continue to make scarves.  At least winter’s coming.

Those are lovely, Samantha! Very nice yarns and styles–very clever! I knit a lot, but I can crochet…though I consider myself still a novice with crocheting, but I do enjoy it. I think that’s wonderful how you can share this craft with your grandmother. :o) Happy Day ((HUGS))

Those are really cute. I tried to teach myself to crochet, and can only seem to go one way and not back the other… useless, huh? I think I will stick to knitting.. even if I can only knit squares and rectangles. ;)
